What is the best way to disipline my puppy when she pees in the house?
My puppy is a 10 week old shitzhu bichon. I bring her houtside every 30 minutes or so, but she would rather pee in the house. She pees outside some of the time but she will litterally pee on the mat as soon as she gets in. I don't know what to do!!

You need to teach your pup to go on command. The links below will show you how but also there may be a few things you may be missing in the yard.
1. Is the outside area small? (if it is then feeding out there and expecting him to go out there won't fly as dogs don't like to pee and poop where they eat or sleep so make sure there is plenty of room or feed him indoors then take him out straight away).
2. Is the outside too clean? If there is not a scent of his own urine he will be less keen to go there. Try to leave it for a while (i know this is not very nice for you but it will speed things up).

Is it normal for a English Bulldog to clot when she pees during her first cycle?
Molly is currently 2 days into her first cycle, when she pees she has blood mixed in it and I just noticed a blood clot in her urine, Is this normal? If it is not what could it be?

In a female dog the opening through which urine passes is also the opening through which the vagina empties. So it is normal for the discharge from her estrus cycle to be washed out by urine.

In other words, the bloody stuff is coming from her uterus and the urine from her bladder, but the two are combining inside her vulva as they are being washed out of her body.

Expect the discharge to continue for around a week and then slow or even disappear. Be aware that just because the discharge stops it doesn't mean she is done. On the contrary, she is most receptive to becoming pregnant during the second week of her season, and the total season lasts an average of three weeks. So keep her up from other dogs for at least three weeks.

Okay... here's a question for you. My female rat pees all over the multiple levels of her cage on the floor. She pees near her food and she sometimes sleeps in her urine as well. I have two female rats and they've taught them selves to use one corner of the cage to mess in. Next time you clean her cage, leave some of her droppings in a corner that you want her to use as a toilet and eventually she may understand to use it. This is like habitual training.

Another thing to do is when you have your rat out for a run around and you want to put her back, put her on your shoulder before getting up and keep her there until you actually put her in the cage. Again this is training her. I've done it with my two girls and every time they want to go back they climb up onto my shoulders and wait. Obviously it's not fool proof where sometimes the poor girls just can't hold on and will mess on the couch, but they are usually good.

Remember if you are going to try this, it will take persistence and patience for it to work.

Some people use a little litter box, so maybe that's an option for when she is out of the cage. Again leave a bit of her mess in there so she knows what to do.

Just started potty training, why does my daughter cry when she pees in the potty?
Right before she pees she struggles to get off potty and cries when she pees. She will sit on the potty for a long time and fuss when I ask her if she wants to get off and try again later but when she needs to actually go potty she will fight NOT to sit on the potty. What do I do now?

My little one did this for a brief time. She had been totally in to sitting on the potty and had even gone a couple times in the toilet, but hadn't committed to the big girl underwear switch yet. Thank goodness, because then, suddenly, she was FREAKED about it. So rather than push the issue, I just backed off for a couple of weeks or so, and then she was ready again.

After she started being ok with peeing, it still took a long time before she was comfortable pooping. Once she was letting me know several times a day that she had to pee, that's when we finally went all out and made the big switch.

As with everything, I found potty training to be a lot of two steps forward, one step back.

Think about it this way - submissive urination is done out of fear, by lower ranking pack members in order to appease the higher ranking pack member. It's a dog's way of saying, "I completely submit, please don't kill me".

When you punish her, you cause more fear, which = more pee. How do you ever expect to *punish* her OUT of this?? All you're doing is exacerbating the problem.

If this urination continues, seek professional advice from your veterinarian or a qualified dog trainer or behaviorist.
